Thursday art students from Franklin learned about warm and cool colors. The students then used a variety of materials and colored with warm and cool colors on the squares. After the students were done they helped piece the puzzle together to create an art puzzle.

WMIS 8th grade Asymmetrical Folder Designs
For our first project this year, the 8th
graders played with the idea of "two sides" to create asymmetrical designs on
their Art folders. The variety seen in their work is outstanding! Some students
chose nature themes, others humor, while others tackled very deep issues. I'm
excited to see what the rest of the semester will produce. There is A LOT of
talent in our Panther Artists

Balloon Bowls - 6th Grade
Inspired by artist Maarten De Ceulaer, my 6th grade students created their own type of balloon bowl. Students were instructed to choose fabrics consisting of only warm or cool colors for the outside of their bowl. The armature is simply made from paper mache, and the outside of the fabrics the students picked out. Though our process was much different, these bowls turned out wonderfully!!
Franklin Elementary Art K-3
The K-3 classes explored design through found natural objects. Children created an arrangement of flowers, weeds and twigs on 100% cotton fabric then spritzed it with bleech while in the sun. The results were stunning.

Walker Elementary Art 3-5th grade
Most 3rd through 5th graders created their Personality Profiles in Art using fibers. Students had to show how their parents, siblings and friends saw them in terms of colors, textures and organization. The bottom section of the profiles are how they saw themselves. As you can see there are many different personalities full of energy and personality.

Pinwheels for Peace! September 21st is International Day of Peace! The First through 3rd graders are beginning to learn about the Government and as part of that, students in Art class created Pinwheels as a symbol of Peace. Each student discussed and wrote their thoughts about "war and peace/ tolerance/living in harmony with others" on one side then created a beautiful pattern on the other side. Friday, the pinwheels will be placed in the ground outside of Walker Elementary to symbolize and recognize World Peace.

West Milwaukee Open House
Please come and join us at West Milwaukee Intermediate on Wednesday, September 20th at 6:30. We are having our annual
Open House. This is a fantastic way for families to meet their students'
teachers, ask questions, and observe all the hard work going on here at West.
Students and families will be able to visit each individual classroom. Stop by
the Art Room and take a look at all of the previous 8th graders artist-inspired
ceiling tiles! Hope to see you there!
For more information about the art program at West, please visit Ms. Valentine's blog: A Pencil A Day.
